How The Essential Oil Is Extracted

Essential oil (a.k.a. Volatile oil, Ethereal oil or Aetherolea) is the most concentrated fragrant liquid. It contains strong flavors, extracted by different methods from plants, including flowers, fruits, leaves, stem, even peel and roots. These essential oils possess the purest aroma molecules, from which the perfumes are made. The extraction of essential oils is a long and sometimes a laborious process. But overall - very expensive process, because for producing only a few milligrams of essential oil, thousands of pounds of natural materials are required.

The extraction of essential oils depends on the type, chemical structure and the amount of the materials, which will be extracted. Essential oils are generally extracted by distillation (enfleurage). In most cases, via steam distillation of flowers or leaves, e.g. rose, rosewood, sandalwood, seaweed. Another method for extraction is a process of expression or solvent extraction. In this method, the essential oil is obtained by addition of solvents (e.g. ethyl alcohol) and other substances, which are then evaporated and left only the pure fragrant volatile oil, called "absolute". For example, essential oils of vanilla and oakmoss are produced in this way. And via cold pressure or mechanical expression, most citrus peel oils are produced. And when the essential oil is obtained, it is then bottled and ready for use.

There is many producers of essential oils around the world. And most of them offer the whole process of growing plants, processing and extracting the essential oils. There is also small "boutique" producers/distillers of essential oils, which production is called "Artisan Essential Oils". In all cases, essential oils delivers an irresistible, extremely strong flavor, which could be used for different purposes - in pharmacology, medicine, perfumery and the beauty industry. Moreover, all essential oils offer different aromatherapy benefits, such as refreshing, romantic, calming, relaxing etc. And the easiest way to buy these oils is in the Online Shops for essential oils.
