The most important part and respectively the most important ingredients in your homemade perfume, are the essential oils. They are natural extracts of plants, roots, leaves, citruses and even of animal origin. There are also many methods of extraction that varies according to the specific objects of which the essential oils are extracted from. For example, the ancient method of extraction is the "enfleurage", there are also a solvent extraction, mechanical expression, distillation. Formed in this way essential oils are a very fragrant volatile liquids and even the smallest amount of them deliver a strong smell.

The easiest way to get common essential oils is to buy them from a perfume essential oils shop or an online perfume oils store. Also, there are some differences in their smell - essential oils and fragrance oils. The essential oils are mostly a natural extraction of flowers, plants and trees, and the bottle consists of only one flavor. While the fragrance oils are often synthetic composition of more than one flavor, which make them more expensive in some cases. In the selection of essential oils or fragrance oils - keep your mind on the type of the flavors and consider the method of extraction, the strenght of the smell, the origin, and any warning about allergies.

When making your own perfume, you will need only few drops of the selected essential oils. But be aware that even two or three more drops and the final effect will be stronger. For example, if you want to make a homemade Eau de Parfum - it is better to add three, four or more drops of essential oils. But, if you want to make the lightest Eau Fraiche or Scented Water - maybe one or two drops will be enough.

Then, you should consider the mix of essential oils, if you want to achieve a blend of fragrances. For example, if you want to make a fresh homemade perfume with light flowery notes, a common advice is to add two drops of essential oils of citruses and one drop of essential oils of flowers. It is recommended to work on this with sterile gloves, in a dry environment, prevented from any direct sunlight. Also, the temperature is good to be less than 17-18 degrees Celsius. Put the mixture of essential oils in a small plastic container, a cone-bottom is desirable. Then, steer carefully also with a plastic rod or tablespoon.

A good idea is to add also a few drops of carrier oils for a long-lasting smell. The carrier oils are natural products of plants (seeds and stems), and are used to prevent skin irritation. The container with the mixture of essential oils must be tightly closed, and to be ready for the next step - the addition of alcohol ingredients.
