Online Courses - How to Make Your Own Perfume (Part 3)

In the third part of the online course "How to Make Your Own Perfume" you will read more about the basic steps in the selection of alcohol ingredients and tips for their addition to the essential oils. Also, this process should be done after the selection of essential oils - when you have already decided which to be the final smell of your own perfume and its applications.

The alcohol is used as a main perfume ingredient and varies greatly - from 30%-40% to 70%-90% of the overall liquid mixture. The general function of the alcohol ingredients is to make essential oils evaporate earlier, than their own molecules. In this way, you can determine which to be the top, middle and the base notes of your homemade perfume, and also how long to be lasting. Also, if you add a scented alcohol, e.g. lemon vodka, liquor or another - its flavor will be prevalent for the first smell of your own perfume. But, it is recommended to use only pure alcohol, for example 100% pure vodka, Ethyl alcohol (a.k.a. Ethanol) or rubbing alcohol. Via the pure alcohol, the smell of the essential oils will be clearly felt and so the final effect will be greater.

The addition of the alcohol to the essential oils should be done immediately after the mixture of the essential oils. If you want to make a 100ml homemade perfume, for example, you will need a 150ml or 200ml plastic container with metric line. After the drops of essential oils are added, add the alcohol and be careful with its amount. For lighter fragrances such as Colognes or Eau Fraiche, it is desirable to fill about 70ml-90ml alcohol. For heavier scents with more drops of essential oils - is is desirable to fill the container with no more than 50ml-70ml alcohol.

After the alcohol is added to the essential oils - stir thoroughly until the whole liquid is mixed well. It is recommended to work on this process in a sterile environment and with medical gloves. Also, prevent the container from any direct sunlight and high temperature. After the container being filled with the mixture of essential oils and alcohol ingredients, be sure that everything is closed tightly. Let stand the container in a dark and cool place, e.g. a cabinet or a box, for about 24 to 48 hours. Then, you have to add the water ingredients. Find more about it in the fourth part of this online course.
